This year our Comité did an assessment in their rural communities and agreed that the most pressing need is potable water. In some communities, families have to haul water from a river or a natural spring, and sometimes the water is contaminated. Many communities have water systems, but they may be in a deteriorated state or not meet the needs of the growing population.
In February 2018, we worked with a rural Water Committee to repair expand a water system in Hilapo (Sector Hacienda). This system was installed over 10 years ago, and needed repairs and expansion. The Committee and local leaders found local solutions, and we simply provided the materials – pipes, cement, and sand. We are currently assessing other projects in hopes to support similar water systems in rural communities.
