Since our founding in 1993, SCSRN has been dedicated to working in collaboration with San Ramón leaders and community members to support projects focusing on community health, rural education and environmental preservation.

1998-99 | Hurricane Mitch Recovery Program constructs 20 homes including a community center for the community El Horno #2. SW Durham Rotary funds construction of 67 latrines in El Horno #2. |
1999 | Community theatre delegation from SR travels to NC. Butterfly project launches at FEV with grant from SW Durham Rotary and NC District Rotary. |
2000 | Music Program begins and a birding partnership is started with the NC Museum of Natural Science |
2001 | Frist health delegation to San Ramón |
2002 | SCSRN wins NC Peace Prize |
2003- | San Ramón and La Pita Water Projects begin |
2004 | Smithsonian Award for Eco-tours and ToDo! Tourism Award. 10th Anniversary Delegation from San Ramón |
2005- | First School Kitchen constructed- where? Rural Schools Partnership program begins. 3 RSPs established |
2006 | Name changes to Sister Communities of San Ramón, Nicaragua |
2007 | Raleigh Sister Community formed. Responsible Tourism Award (UK). Cup of Excellence win for coffee |
2008 | FEV SEEP Grant awarded. 10th School Kitchen completed. NC hosts San Ramón delegation for 13 days |
2009 | SCSRN hires first US staff person |
2011 | Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chapter formed. Dorothea Haus Ross Foundation grant for Los Pipitos expansion and improvement. Jeffery Cook Charitable Trust Grant for compressed earth block making machine purchase. |
2012 | 14th RSP formed. |
2013 | With generous support from the Jeffery Cook Charitable Trust, our 7th Community School was completed in Mina Verde #2 using our new compressed earth block- making machine. The same grant allowed us to complete construction on the new preschool and community library in the rural community of Yucul. This year, we also began our Rural School Kitchen Garden program begins.SCSRN celebrates its 20th year anniversary! |
