An enthusiastic gathering of 85 SCSRN supporters turned out to celebrate our 25th anniversary in Durham, NC at the Five Oaks Clubhouse Sunday February 10, 2019. Friends who hadn’t seen each other in years met to celebrate with the Board of Directors. Most everyone who attended had visited San Ramon on an ecotour. Counter Culture Coffee, our most fantastic corporate sponsor which has supported us since the early days roasting our coffee for our once a month sales, received our thanks as did Lonna and Richard Harkrader, founders. Good food and drink were shared and it was an all around fabulous event.
Since that first delegation came to San Ramón in 1993, led by our founders, Richard and Lonna Harkrader, Sister Communities of San Ramón, Nicaragua was dedicated to being a non-profit built on relationships. Those first visitors were inspired by the resilient, strong-spirited people of San Ramón and wanted to be a part of helping make their hopes and dreams reality, while also sharing their experience with other visitors to San Ramón. Twenty-five years later, SCSRN has brought approximately $1.28 million through social projects and tourism to this rural corner of Nicaragua.
We continue to share laughter and tears with our brothers and sisters of San Ramón. As Nicaragua struggles through difficult times, our commitment to San Ramón is as strong as ever. We invite you to take part as we accompany the people of San Ramón into what we hope will be a brighter future.
